It is only about 15' wide but is impossible to take a tractor in there where as the mini would walk thru there easily. I would think a root rake on the mini would work well to reach around the bigger trees as well as tight to the ditch and fence and pull the brush and roots. If I could couple the root rake with thumb it would be a great system. I use this with my PC50Komatsu alot. I have a rake i built but its rented out right now. Iron Horse I just traded for an old Austin Western grader that was a Military surplus. It was a parts machine I have a fella on Heavy equipment board that wants to look at the circle motor. I may make another rake with its scarifier. But, I haven't heard anyone claim they'll handle 3"-4" brush. I think if you've got heavier brush than say 1"-2" - you need to look at a good HD brush hog type mower. LandPride, Woods, and others make some pretty stout mowers. .

When I build ATV trails on my timberland, I dig the sticks, brush and roots out with a toothed bucket and loosen up a few inches of soil with the mini ex, then grab an old 8 ft. railroad tie crossways between the bucket and thumb and smooth it out. To grade a slope, just grab the rr tie at an angle. Be careful trying to use a mini ex as a dozer. The mini excavator can often get better access and be more manoeuvrable on a job. Skid steers, especially tracked ones are also surprisingly effective at ground preparation, very quick and agile for material handling, and leave the site tidier than a wheeled machine. Once you make a pile you can push down on the pile with the grapple open and get quite a bite. I took down 10 maple,ash and birch trees 16-24in, cutting the logs at 9' in about 6 hours. We piled the brush 500ft away and loaded the logs in a trailer. All the brush work was done by a beginner operator.
