Hello, I am getting ready to purchase a new skid steer. The two choices I am down to are a New Holland LS 170 or a John Deer 250 series 2. Both seem to be very similar machines and the price is about the same. I wanted to know if anyone had any comments about the two and wich one I should lean towards.
Most have their +/- but never have I been so disappointed as I have been with the new L200 series of New Holland skid steer loaders. I recently purchased 4 used NH L200 series skid steers (1 - 2012 L230, 2- 2014 L230s and 1 - 2015 L228) not knowing about all the problems they seem to be known for (my bad for not researching them enough).
I just bought a New Holland LX665. :drinkup:It is a older skid steer, but I am just starting to expand my business in this direction. My questions are mostly the usual for just starting out in this line of work, but I do have a few specific questions about my skid steer. Howdy, folks. I have an NH LS 185.B skid steer with hand and foot controls. To enable the aux hydraulics, you unlock the right control lever and move the handle up and down. Up is for the female coupler, down is for the male. For either of these, you have to hold the handle in position; if you let go, it returns to neutral and neither coupler . Visibility is good once you get used to a large frame skid steer - definitely not as good as the LS 160 though. The electronic controls took a little getting used to in the beginning coming from a 100% mechanical linkage machine. Fast response - a little slower response when wanting to stop or change direction. I have a 2002 new holland ls 180. When I sit in seat- no action on the control panel. When I turn key once- beeps but still no lights. when I turn key to start it fires up but when i release key- it stalls and starter is still cranking for 5 seconds or so and then stops.
Not all attachments require a drain line. I have been running a breaker for 13 years on a skid steer and have yet to need a case drain line. Both my machines have them but I have never needed to use it. Some attachments require the use of them, but breakers are not one of them. Working on demo sites 2 lines is enough to worry about snagging. That suspension seat looks very similiar to the seat in my New Holland skid of the same vintage. Had to replace the seat switch a couple years back. Glad I didn't have to tilt the cab to do it. You may want to replace the seat at thesame time and with some searching you can find aftermarket replacement seats for around 0.
