On some of the Caterpillar drive motors I worked on, the parking brake was . Have a cat 287b that seems too not be releasing the parking brake. The light goes off on the monitor but when you go too move the skidsteer it makes this terrible screeching noise and won't hardly go.
The parking brake solenoid has no diagnostics for checking for faults in the system. The solenoid will NOT be energized when there is an open circuit or a short to ground.
I removed the park brake solenoid and the resistance reads 7.3 ohms (don't know if that is within spec or not).
Test Step 1. CHECK FOR HYDROSTATIC OPERATION. Occupy the seat. Lower the armrest. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.See Troubleshooting, "Parking Brake Indicator Is Flashing" or Troubleshooting, "Armrest Indicator Is Flashing". Stop. •NOT OK - The resistance is considerably greater than 11 Ohms. Repair: The parking brake indicator is not working properly. See Troubleshooting, "Parking Brake Indicator Is Flashing". Stop. Test Step 2. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH. Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Remove the parking brake switch. Disconnect the wire harness from the switch. Press the switch. On some of the Caterpillar drive motors I worked on, the parking brake was spring applied, hydraulically released. On the center of the brake cover, there would be a plug, through which a puller bolt could be installed to compress the spring, & release the brake. They ran a test that indicated that it was slowly failing (BRAKE TEST FAILED - 28 PSI SHOULD BE READING 0 PSI). They said at some point, the parking brake will not release. They quoted me 5 to replace the parking brake solenoid and manifold.
You will probably need to raise and block the machine up and remove the skid plate to access the valve. There will be two solenoids on the manifold block. I think it is the one where the wire clips onto the solenoid.
Run a jumper from fuse panel to the parking brake solenoid (supply steady 12V) works flawless. Now I know I have wiring / switch issue, but was unable to successfully trace down the wires.
