The best things to get in my opinion for a rental fleet is as follows Smooth and toothed buckets Auger Land leveler (i use mine all the time, its the best) Fixed arm backhoe with thumb Harley Rake - the soil cultivator is too slow and is basically a tiller with a smoothing basket. I bought a skid steer and rarely use it on small hardscape projects. It's only good to have on site to do the heavy lifting on small jobs. Excavators are made for prep work, skid steers are made for material handling and grading. We do a lot of small lots here on Vancouver island, most lots run from .07 to .25 acres within the city so full sized skid isn't really always practical. It seemed like the cleanup and damage the bobcat or mini ex would do, along with tight spots that still needed hand work anyway wasn't really worth it to get a machine in. The tractor/skid steer argument has been beaten to death. If you work on lawns, buy a tractor. If you move a lot of dirt, get a skid steer because it'll bury a tractor 3 ways to Sunday when it comes to moving large quantities of material.
