I have power but no crank/ no start. I’m thinking it might be a safety switch. I’ve checked starter and it’s good. I tested the starter and it works perfectly fine. I have a 2006 CAT 277B (CAT0277BCMDH04755) with about 2,000 hours on it. It's always cranked right up and run strong. A couple weeks ago I had been using it for about 10 minutes (wasn't cold outside, probably 50) when it started bogging down on throttle (felt like the tracks were stuck in the mud) and then it blew a small amount of white smoke . You should never use starting fluid to start your engine, it can bend your push rods break your pistons and cause major damage. I have rebuilt a few engines because of that issue and I have replaced too many engines because of this issue.
If your Cat skid steer is not starting, this is the place that you should check first. The main reason is that if these connectors get loose or lose their effectiveness due to dirt build up then the vehicle will not start. Check out the connectors and give them a thorough cleaning.
I parked it and the next day it won't do anything. The key turns on, everything beeps, but when I turn the key to ignition, nothing happens. I jumped the ignition at the main in the rear, and it fired up and ran great, but couldn't get it to come off of park.
When the key start switch is in the START position, battery voltage is applied to the interlock ECM. The ECM sends power to the start relay. Locate wire 306-GN and wire 202-BK on the start relay.
