Cracking open the hydraulic pump on my Case 1845 Skid Steer and taking a look inside. Main hydraulic pump runs of of the fan end of the engine. Driven off engine crankshaft. See it when you open back door. It provides the oil for the hydrostatic drives under the seat as well as the loader functions. It has a splined coupler between it and the engine. Worn coupler and/or pump splines is a common problem on these older machines
I was wondering if the drive motors and the "control box" and pumps (sorry if some wrong terms) are the types of thing that basically either work or do not work? In other words, does their performance have a slow decline and should I rebuild or replace them? Does anyone know if I can swap my 1840's hydraulic pump for a 40XT or even a 60XT or 75XT hydraulic pump? They all have a 7/8" 13 spline shaft. The 1840 puts out 15 gpm, the 40XT flows 19 gpm, and the 60/75XT pumps out 21 gpm.
