With a mini ex I thinking a use a rockhound type attachment and selectvely remove branches and clear around the trunks a little easier and quicker. My question is I'm looking in the 5-6 ton mini ex 305.5 or some similar do these machines posses the hydraulic power to run a cutting head with power for mulching type applications?
Searching for a mini excavator and I'm on the fence of enclosed vs open cab. My 35D was open cab and was great for visibility but still got wet on rainy days and working in mud it went every where. Closed cab would be better for working on colder and rainy days but more things to break. The answer is it varies. One thing that is true though, smaller equipment like mini excavators and skid steers, don't have the same long lives that larger machines do. 5K on wheel loader is nothing, 5k on a skid steer is a lot. I trade out my Takeuchi mini excavators at around 2000-2500 hours. The blades on mini's are more for backfilling than grading. The 161 has good pushing power not so sure about the rubber tracked models as the one I used is on steel track. Theres no business like the Excavation business playing in the dirt with big toys.
It still isn't worth it to try haul a 12,000lb mini with a P/U truck. H*ll 90% of the mini's heavier than 6000lbs are pulled with a 5 ton to a tandem axle dump. It is very rare a excavation contractor or landscaper trys to pull a heavier mini ex with a P/U truck. Pick up trucks were NEVER designed and NEVER will be a truck tractor. Hey guys, we recently purchased a kubota kx121-3 brand new. it has 35 hours on it now, and since we bought it, i was just using the generic tractor supply grease i had laying around. after finishing off my second tube, i realized im gonna need more. A backhoe just has too big of a footprint for me and I just prefer an excavator over a backhoe. During the summer digging can be hard sometimes but this size machine does pretty well. A full size backhoe has a bigger bucket and more digging strength but it also takes more time to move and cannot swing 360 degrees.
Lifting with a excavator is no different than lifting with a crane keep the load low so if you have to drop the load you don't have to go far. Rocks in the 3200lb range your going to be using the blade and bucket to carry them or roll them into place. A job like that you would be setting the large rocks first and build the rest around the rocks. How bad do you think a mini excavator would tear up turf provided it was fairly firm? I'm talking about a Bobcat 325 mini ex and assuming no rain within the last 48 hours on a well draining yard. Does anybody try putting out plywood or some type of pad to protect the lawn, or is this a waste of time? The Lipa TLBE-70 flail mower weighs around 490 lb with a typical mount and has a 29″ cut width, so it’s most suitable for mini excavators which weigh between around 5000 lb and 8000 lb. The TLBE-70 ideally requires 12-14 gallons of oil flow per minute, at ideally 3000 psi.
